On Saturday we went downtown to check out the Music City Bar-b-que festival.  There was a caricature artist there so of course we had to let them draw a picture of Cain.  We were hoping it would be a funny cartoon like picture but it ended up being a picture that really didn't look too much like Cain.  Actually the picture made Cain look like a three year old boy.

What do you think....Does it look like Cain?  Even though it wasn't a cartoon like picture, we still laugh every time we look at it.

18 month well check up

Cain had his 18 month well check up last week and thankfully passed his physical exam with an A+.  (Or at least I gave him an A+)

The following are the results from his physical exam.

Height - 30.75 inches - 8th percentile
Weight - 24lb 5oz - 26th percentile
Head circumference - 18.86 inches - 50th percentile

Based on Cain's height it may be safe to say that Cain won't be the next Michael Jordan.

The pediatrician decided to start Cain on a daily vitamin since Cain refuses to eat vegetables.  He is starting to become quite the picky eater.  The pediatrician also decided he wanted Cain to start speech therapy.  He put in a referral with Vanderbilt and told us we should hear from them soon.  The pediatrician and I are both confident Cain will be talking up a storm soon but since all he really says at 18 months is momma we decided to move forward with therapy.

Construction has started!

I stopped by our house today to check on it and noticed that construction had finally begun on rebuilding our flooded home.   When you look at the pictures you will think I'm crazy to say rebuilding has begun because it is still just a huge mess.  But trust me some work was finally done this week (removing upper cabinets and tearing out some walls and rotting wood) and that makes me very happy.  I have begun to give up hope that we will be back in our house before this baby girl is born considering her due date is less than 3 1/2 months away.  I'd love to be moved back in by then but I think it will be a miracle if that happens.  For now, I'm just thrilled construction has finally started!!

And here are some photos of what it looked like today (the first week of rebuilding).

It's sad when this is progress and actually makes me happy.  Eventually it will look like our home again.

Busy Wednesday

I am one worn out prego girl tonight!  Cain & I had a very busy and productive day today.  We first had an appointment downtown with "We Are Home" which is the Nashville Rebuilding Assistance Program.

It is a program that is supposed to provide financing for the repair of homes damaged by the flood.  Hopefully we will be eligible for some of the assistance it provides in a form of a loan to assist in rebuilding our home.  I hoped Cain would fall asleep on the way to the appointment but he didn't therefore he was a bit rowdy during my meeting.  Naturally they asked for so much information that I didn't have with me so the next several hours after my meeting were spent trying to gather paperwork such as tax returns for '08 and '09, bills, insurance info, etc. I also stopped by a Uhaul place to rent a uhaul we need for the weekend.

Later this afternoon I had an appointment at a place called Kenny & Company to look at plumbing products for the kitchen and bathrooms.  Our contractor set the appointment and just wanted me to go get ideas of what I liked so we could start making plans for our bathroom and find a sink for the kitchen.

Don't you think we should put one of those tubs in our house?  When I walked in the store I laughed a little.  As you can see from the pictures it wasn't hard to find ideas I liked on the showroom floor but I don't think they will fit into the Clinkscales rebuilding budget.  It was at least fun to dream for a little while.  I think my next stop will be to check out plumbing from Lowe's and Home Depot.  I'll admit that I left this appointment so stressed and overwhelmed.  There are entirely too many faucets, sinks, tubs, toilets, shower heads, etc. to choose from.  All of these decisions I have to make with the house make my head spin.

I rushed home after the meeting in the pouring rain so I could put Cain down for a quick nap and then head to kickboxing tonight.  I've been taking a kickboxing class for about a year now and love the class so much.  I try to go 2-3 times a week.  I think it helps keep me from going insane at times.  I've started thinking about Cain's next surgery a lot lately and had some emotional moments thinking about it.  There are days when I need this kickboxing class to help me clear my mind for an hour.  It works out perfect because I can take Cain with me and he sits in his stroller and watches the class.

After kickboxing, Cain and I came home, Skyped with my mom and dad for a few minutes, I gave him a bath, put him to bed and then cleaned up the house and washed a load of clothes.  Now I'm waiting for Brad to get home from Toronto.  He has been there working since Monday but should be home any minute now.  I'll be happy when he walks through the door.  I know he is ready to see his baby boy.  And hopefully he is ready to see me too.

Pregnancy Highlights - 24 Weeks

Pregnancy Highlights:

How Far Along: 24 Weeks today
Size of baby: 13 inches long and weighs a little over a pound. She is the length of an ear of corn!
Total Weight Gain: Gained 18lbs.
Maternity Clothes: I have one pair of maternity jeans but since it is summer I'm able to wear non-maternity dresses almost everyday
Gender: Girl!
We still don't have a full name picked out.  We think we have her first name picked out but still considering middle names.
Movement: Yes! She moves so much more than Cain ever did.  It's so fun to feel her moving around punching & kicking me.
What I miss: I really can't say I miss a thing.
Sleep: Sleep has never been a problem for me.  I've always slept great!
Symptoms: I don't really have any symptoms other than frequent trips to the bathroom.
Cravings: Can't say I have any cravings yet.  In the beginning I was craving Angel Food smoothies from Smoothie King.
Best Moment this week: I was able to hear her heartbeat today.
What I am looking forward to this week: I should be getting fabric samples in the mail this week for possible crib bedding.  Can't wait to see the fabric in person.

I had my 24 week check up today and everything went great.  I don't think my OB was thrilled that I had already gained 18lbs.  She drilled me on what foods I was eating and asked me several times if I've been drinking juice a lot.  I gained way too much weight when I was pregnant with Cain so I'm trying to do better this time.  I was actually happy that I had only gained 18lbs but don't think the Dr. was as happy.

I heard her heartbeat today.  It was around 144-145 beats per minute.  Hearing that little heartbeat always puts a huge smile on my face.  I also had my glucose test today.  I had to drink the wonderful drink, wait and hour and then have my blood drawn.  I should hear the results from the test sometime next week.  From here on out I will start seeing a different Dr. at each appointment.  That way I can meet all the Dr's in the practice in case my Dr. isn't available to deliver this baby.  My next appointment is in 4 weeks.

Cain's 1st trip to Lake Bruin

We traveled home to Louisiana last weekend to spend a few days at my Granddad's lake house.  It was so nice & relaxing.  I just wish the lake house wasn't an 8 hour drive from Nashville.  If it were closer I think we would be there every weekend.

Fetal Echo

A week after we found out that baby #2 is a girl we were able to have a fetal echo performed to look closely at her heart. Since my 20 week ultrasound looked good I was comfortable about the echo yet it was hard to not be a little nervous. The echo was performed at Vanderbilt Children's by the same group that Cain goes to for his check-ups. Both Brad & I felt strange to be there without Cain.

The echo took a little longer than I expected but it was only because this baby is a mover! She would not stay still for the echo tech. I think his exact words were, "if she is the same when she is born as she is now then we will have a wild one on our hands" Yikes!

Once the echo tech was able to take all the pictures he needed of the heart he met with the doctor. She then came in and took a few more pictures.

Finally, we heard what we had been waiting to hear! All looks good!!! 4 chambers, great arteries are where they are supposed to be, etc. She did say there are some things she would not be able to see until the baby was born and told us a echo could be performed sometime after birth if we wanted it to be. But she also said she felt very comfortable that everything is perfect

For now, it will be nice to sit back and enjoy the rest of my pregnancy without the worries and fears I had while pregnant with Cain.

8th Anniversary

On July 27th 2002, I married my best friend. It's crazy to think it's already been 8 years. I feel so lucky to be married to someone I love so much and I'm pretty sure he feels the same way about me. (At least he better feel the same way!) We started celebrating our anniversary early when I surprised him with a date to dinner and to see Louis C.K. at Zanies Comedy Club. I even had Janie, who I consider a relative even though she's my cousin's cousin, keep Cain for the night. I thought it would be a good idea to have a night to ourselves but I have to admit we were both a little sad after we dropped Cain off. He had a blast though and we enjoyed our evening out.

Tuesday July 27th was our actual anniversary and Brad took me out to dinner that night and he surprised me to a night at a hotel downtown. Brad's mom had come in town to visit for a few days so she kept Cain while we went out.

We had a wonderful evening and I think I'll keep him around for another year. Ha!

We may have decided on a name for the baby while we were at dinner. But for now we are keeping the name to ourselves just in case we change our minds.

1st Haircut

We finally made the big step and took Cain for his very 1st haircut on Saturday. Although I know he is probably sad to see his cute little mullet gone. I thought I was ready for this big day but will admit I was a little sad when they started cutting his hair. Not that he had very much to cut but the back was getting pretty long. He can no longer talk about his cute head of hair as "business in the front, party in the back". It's all business now.

I know I probably could have cut his hair but we ended up taking him to Snip-It's so his 1st haircut could be a big event. Plus I really didn't trust myself to cut his hair.

Waiting to get his big boy haircut. Yes, I do realize that there wasn't very much to cut.
At first he wasn't too thrilled about having the cape put around his neck.
And he really wasn't thrilled about the lady spraying water on his head. As you can see his face pretty much says..."Why in the world are you doing that?"
But he was much happier once we gave him toys...
And yogurt covered pretzels.
