A Special Dinner

Cain & I shared a special dinner with a very special 1 year old tonight!! I've mentioned our heart buddy Jace on my blog. Today was his 1st birthday. Jace and his family live in Kentucky but they happened to be at Vanderbilt today for a Dr's appointment and they invited us to join them for dinner. I can't tell you how happy I was to see Jace and celebrate his BIG 1st birthday with him. Jace is such a miracle!!! His parents had not found out about his heart defects (Hypoplastic Left Heart) until after his birth. The day Jace was born they thought he was perfectly healthy. It wasn't until the next day that the Dr's noticed something was very wrong. At that time he was flown from Kentucky to Knoxville, TN. When he arrived at the Knoxville hospital they realized Vanderbilt Children's was where Jace needed to be because of his complex heart defects. They then life flighted him to Nashville. I can't imagine how terrified his parents must have been. Thankfully, they got him to Vanderbilt in time. As you can see by the pictures, he is doing great now. He is like Cain and will need a 3rd open heart surgery sometime next year.

Jace & his birthday cheesecake. Both Jace & Cain really seemed to enjoy the cheesecake.
Speaking of birthdays.....Cain turns one on Friday! I can't believe my baby will be one already. I have been very busy over the last few days trying to get decorations finished. This is what my kitchen table looks like right now.

Ridiculous...I know! I think it's safe to say that I am going a bit overboard on the decorations. I can't help it! I'm just SO EXCITED about his birthday.

History has been made!!!

I'm sure you can imagine what our family was doing tonight. That's right...we were glued to the TV watching history in the making. Tonight our beloved Saints won the NFC Championship and are now going to the Superbowl. Unbelievable!!! We like to say Cain is the golden child and helped them make it to the Superbowl. Now if only he can help them win it.

Pre-game nap

"Okay...the nap was just what I needed. I'm ready for the game now"

Watching the game with Daddy

Poor baby!! I wish I could say that Cain was crying because he was happy that the Saints are Superbowl bound. Instead I must admit he was crying after we startled him with our screaming when the Saints made a 40 yard field goal to win the game! The game ended much later than Cain's bedtime but I kept him awake so he could see history in the making.

Cain & Colby

Last Thursday I finally had a chance to take Cain to play with his "heart buddy" Colby. Cain and Colby seemed to have a blast playing together. And I had a lot of fun visiting with Becca. It was so much fun watching them play together and just be "normal" little boys having a good time. Colby had a great playroom and Cain was in heaven. He was nonstop belly crawling from toy to toy. I never realized how much Cain got out of breath as he played until I noticed Colby breathing exactly the same as Cain. I can tell you that neither one of them let being out of breath stop them from having a good time and playing hard. They were just too cute!

Santa bought Cain a Lighting McQueen car for Christmas and Colby received the Mater car from Santa. In the Cars movie both Lighting McQueen & Mater are best of friends. I hope Cain & Colby remain great friends. They certainly share a bond!

Big News

We have some exciting news to share......

Cain pulled himself up to a standing position all by himself!!! We are SO EXCITED and SO PROUD of him.

Twice last week he stood up in his crib and I missed it both times. I had placed him in his crib and turned around to get something and when I turned back to him this is what I saw.

Friday night both Brad and I finally caught him doing it and we were able to get it on video so we could share the big moment with you too!

Cain never ceases to amaze us. I can't tell you how proud we are of this little guy.

Let it Snow...Let it Snow...Let it Snow

Last week Cain saw snow for the very first time. Thankfully my parents had given him a cute little camo snowsuit for Christmas. I bundled him up and we went outside to play in the snow. We only received a dusting but it was just enough for this Southern girl to enjoy. I think Cain enjoyed it too!

More of Cain's 1st Christmas

I've mentioned Christmas with my side of the family but haven't mentioned Christmas with Brad's side of the family. While we were in Louisiana we were able to spend Christmas with his mom, stepsister and family, and even saw his Aunt and Uncle. We had a great time visiting with everyone and wish we could do it more often.

I'm such a big boy.

Having fun with Elizabeth & Emily

Looks like Brad caught a big fish.

Brad & his niece Emily. She is a senior in high school this year and will soon be going off to LSU. We still can't believe it's time for her to go to college. When I married Brad I guess she was only 10 years old. Crazy!!
