Quick Update...

I'll go ahead and apologize but this post will not have any pictures of Cain or Callie.  I'm way too exhausted to do anything other than type a quick update.  I've had many people check to see if Callie gained weight at her weight check on Sunday.  I'm happy to report that she had and her pediatrician was pleased.  She was up to 7lbs. 3oz.  There is no lack of eating on Callie's part.  I swear it seems like she is ALWAYS hungry and always wanting to nurse.  Speaking of nursing...I had to go to a lactation specialist today.  Nursing hasn't exactly been easy and I certainly hope things get better soon.

Another question many people ask me is, "How is Cain adjusting to his new sister?"  So far I think he is adjusting well.  He really only seems interested in her if she is crying.

Cain has his 6 month cardiology appointment tomorrow morning.  I'm praying the appointment goes well.  I always get nervous before these appointments.  I know there will be lots of discussion about Cain's next surgery and surgery is something I don't even want to talk about or think about yet.

Well....I keep falling asleep as I type this update so I guess it is time for me to get some rest.  Cain's appointment is at 9:00 in the morning so it should be interesting to see how we will be able to get everyone dressed, fed, out the door and to an appointment by 9:00.

We're Home

We were able to bring Callie home yesterday around lunch.  It was SO WONDERFUL to bring a baby home 2 days after being born.  The nurses had to go over the standard discharge information of how to care for your baby at home.  All I could think as they were going over everything was, I think I have this one covered.  When Cain was finally discharged from the hospital the nurses were teaching me things like how to put his feeding tube back in, how to flush is line, how to give him daily injections.  I figure cleaning around Callie's umbilical cord should be a breeze!

It was so much fun to dress a baby girl to go home from the hospital.  I may have gone overboard but you only bring a baby home once so I couldn't help myself.

Cain was so cute when we brought Callie home.  He went straight to her carseat to check her out.  I'm still not sure if he was interested in her or just interested in the carseat and the buckles.  It was still adorable no matter which he was interested in.

So far everything is going great.  A friend let us borrow a cradle so Callie is sleeping in our room until we move back in our house.  She slept great last night and woke twice to eat.

We gave Callie her first bath this morning before heading out to her first Dr's appointment.

Needless to say, she wasn't a huge fan of her first bath at home.  But she does seem to like her brother and I think her brother is liking her too.

My parents had to leave this morning to head back to Louisiana.  I hated to see them go and I know they REALLY hated to leave their two grandbabies.

After they left we headed to Callie's first Dr's appointment.  Her pediatrician doesn't make rounds at the hospital she was born at so they wanted to see her as soon as she came home.  The Dr. thought she looked a little yellow so he decided to check her bilirubin count to check for jaundice.

Cain seemed very concerned for his sister while they were drawing her blood.  He was either sad to see her crying or he was worried he was next.

Thankfully her bloodwork turned out okay.  Her count was 11 and they don't get concerned until the count is 17.  However, her pediatrician was concerned about her weight.  Her birth weight was 7lbs. 9oz.  She was 7lbs. 1oz. yesterday when we left the hospital and today she was 6lbs 11oz.  He suggested I start feeding her every 2 to 2 1/2 hours and scheduled us to come back Sunday for a weight check.

After our Dr's appointment Brad had to meet with our contractor about the house.  Which meant I was home alone with both kids for the first time.  I'll admit I was concerned about how it would go but thankfully it turned out just fine.  Cain was a wild man as usual but Callie was great and slept unless she was nursing.

Introducing Callie Ava

We are more than proud to introduce you to Miss Callie Ava Clinkscales!!!!

Born at 12:39PM, 7lbs 9oz., 20 inches long

I thought I would have time to update more throughout the day but everything happened so fast!  My nurse checked me around 12:15 and I was only 5cm dilated.  She walked out of the room and within a minute I was in pain.  We paged the nurse and by the time she made it back to the room I was fully dilated and ready to push.  They paged the nurse and it seemed like I pushed maybe 5 minutes and the next thing I remember was being told "open your eyes and look at your baby girl" as they were laying her in my lap.  I couldn't believe it happened so fast.  I feel beyond blessed!!!!!

Obviously we think she is just perfect.  I think she looks a lot like Cain.  So much so that I started crying earlier and told Brad it almost feels like we are getting to have the time we didn't get to have with Cain.  He had so many wires and machines attached to him that it was hard to have good snuggle time.

This picture won't mean a lot to many people but since so many heart moms read our blog I just had to share this picture.  I know the heart moms reading this will understand how wonderful it was to see Callie's oxygen sat's at.........

Yes, I did make sure to ask them to check her oxygen sat's right away!!  Now if only they would make that mandatory on all baby screenings!
I'll post more pictures tonight or tomorrow morning.  For now, it's time to snuggle away with my new bundle of joy.

"Birth"day Updates

Off to the hospital
Last baby belly picture
10:09 A.M.  (Update #1)  We are at the hospital and so far everything is going great.  This is already a MUCH different experience than it was with Cain.  They put an IV in early this morning and started me on a pitocin drip.  I started having contractions right away but really couldn't feel them.

Shortly after the pitocin drip was started anesthesiology came in and administered my epidural.  I can't believe I already have my epidural.  I had been having contractions about 14 hours with Cain before I received an epidural so this is wonderful!!

My water was broke around 9:15 this morning and the OB said I was already 3cm dilated.  She feels that I will have this baby by 3:00 today.  I guess we will see!

Last night before I went to bed I worked on making treat bags for the nurses and our visitors.  I think they turned out cute.  Oh what I would give to eat one of the oreo's right now.  Thankfully the nurse has given me 2 popsicles and ice chips.  But the chocolate covered oreo's and ritz crackers look great right now.

My parents are already starting to spoil this little girl before she even arrives.  Thanks to her MiMi and Poppa she will have pretty little jewelry to wear home from the hospital.  Her first little ring and a cute little pearl bracelet.

She wasn't the only girl who received new jewelry.  My more than awesome husband gave me a "push" present last night.  He gave me a pretty bracelet with a pink stone in the center.  I love it and obviously love him too!!

I know my parents are dying for Cain to wake up from his nap.  They are at our house taking care of him but I can tell my mom is very ready to get to the hospital.  I know as soon as he wakes up they will bring him up here to see his momma and daddy and hopefully be able to meet his new sister soon.

Baby Time!!!

The time has arrived for us to welcome our baby girl into this world tomorrow.  We have to be at the hospital at 5:30AM.  I should have been asleep hours ago but it's a little hard to rest knowing I'm having a baby tomorrow.

My parents arrived this evening which will be a huge help!  And it's sad that I almost think going to the hospital for a few days will be like a mini-vacation.  The thought of laying in a hospital bed and having people wait on me actually sounds a little nice.  I'm sure any mom out there would understand.

I'm praying for a smooth delivery.  I had a VERY long delivery with Cain and I'm nervous of having to go through that again.  And most of all I'm praying for her to be breathing at birth.  Cain wasn't breathing when he was born so this will be the first time I've been able to have a baby put on my chest to hold after it's born.  I can't wait!!!!  It's something that I certainly won't be taking for granted.

Hopefully I'll be able to post updates throughout the day.  And of course I'll post a picture as soon as I can.

Getting in great quality time with his Daddy on his last night as an only child.

Poor thing....he has no clue how much his world is about to change tomorrow!

Thanksgiving 2010

We spent Thanksgiving in Nashville this year since I couldn't travel due to having a baby any day now.  I hate we weren't able to be with our family but we still had a great day.  Brad ran in the Boulevard Bolt again this year.  I can't tell you how bad I wanted to walk in it but Brad insisted that I didn't.  I have felt great during this pregnancy so I thought walking the race would be no problem at all.  Brad kept making good points about what if you fall, etc so I listened to him and didn't participate.  As much as I hate to admit this...he was probably right!  As Cain and I walked with Brad from our car to the starting line I realized there was no way I could have made the 5 mile race even if I had only walked it.  The short distance from the car to see Brad start the race ended up being just enough walking for me.

Brad being silly before the race
Patiently waiting for his Daddy to make it to the finish line.
Cain and I enjoyed watching everyone run by in their fun costumes.  I'm thinking I should have made Brad dress up like a turkey.

After the race we went home so I could make sweet potatoes and head over to Derek and Andrea's house to celebrate Thanksgiving with their family.  They were so kind to invite us again this year.  We had Thanksgiving with them in '08 when I was pregnant with Cain.

The food was great and we had a great time visiting with everyone.  I think Cain had a good time putting on a show.  He hardly stayed still for more than one second.  I was relieved when he finally sat down and watched Dora with Ellie.

Aren't they adorable?
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!  Our family has SO MUCH to be thankful for this year.

I'm especially thankful for this little turkey....

And our other little turkey on the way!!

I'm also MORE THAN THANKFUL to have a wonderful husband who is also my best friend!  I think we make a great team through the good and the bad!  We have certainly been through several very stressful situations together and I can't imagine having anyone else by my side.

I am also very thankful for our family and friends.  I've always appreciated my family and friends but my appreciation of them has grown even more over the last few years.

And I'm thankful that we will be able to move back in our home in a few weeks.  I can't wait!!

Speaking of our little turkey on the way.....

I went to the OB on Wednesday and I am scheduled to be induced this coming Tuesday, November 30th.  I can't believe she will be here in a few days.  My parents are driving up on Monday and I have to be at the hospital on Tuesday morning at 5:30AM.  I was told the Dr. should be in around 8:30 to break my water.  This Tuesday is a week before my due date.  I'm already dilated, baby girl's head is already very low and this is my 2nd pregnancy so the Dr's seem very comfortable about me being induced.  I hope they are right!  I'll week works out much better because we have to be out of our apartment on December 10th and her due date had been December 7th.  I am a little nervous though about me not progressing after being induced and ending up having to have a C-section.  I guess we will find out what  happens on Tuesday.  I'm praying that everything works out perfectly.  Cain came exactly a week early so maybe she is supposed to come a week early too!

Cinderella's Ball

On Saturday Cain celebrated his friend Liza's 3rd birthday.  She had a princess party complete with Cinderella and a ball.  All of the kids had a blast and so did the parents.  It was so cute to see all the kids dancing to the music.  The cutest part of the party was when Liza said to Cinderella in the sweetest voice...."How did you find me???"  She couldn't believe Cinderella was at her house.
