I can't believe that my sweet baby boy will turn one in just one month. Where has this year gone?
What is Cain doing at 11 months?
-Cain can say Da-da, Momma, and even Poppa (he whispers Poppa every time he says it). Last month Cain would only say Momma but now he says Da-da ALL the time.
-At Cain’s last weight check he weighed 19lbs 7oz.
-Cain has finally learned to sit up on his own. This is REALLY exciting for us.
-He is very mobile now. He still isn’t crawling on his hands and knees but he can get anywhere by belly crawling (low crawl/army crawl…whatever it’s called) We will be baby proofing our house tomorrow. He’s into everything now!
-Cain can wave bye-bye, clap, and mimic many things we do. We are now working to teach him how to give high-fives & blow kisses.
-Today he learned how to put a little basketball into a basketball goal he has.
-He likes to throw things and is now throwing balls to us.
-He loves taking a bath and is really starting to splash around in the bath water.
-He’s constantly “talking” and making noises.
-Cain loves playing with his toys. He received a little barn for Christmas and loves opening the door to it and throwing the farm animals inside the door and taking them back out.
-He can now drink his own bottle without us holding it for him.
-Cain is such a happy, mellow baby. We are so proud to be his parents.
My parents made a donation to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital this year. I thought that it was a very thoughtful gift considering Vanderbilt Children's is the reason we were able to celebrate this Christmas with Cain!

We recently had family photos taken by Misti Stone of Focus Photography. She made these wonderful Christmas cards for us. I wish I could have sent one to each of you!
You can see the rest of our pictures by clicking here. I was so excited with how they turned out.
I hope you all are having a wonderful Christmas. We had a great Christmas and are still enjoying time with our families. I’ll post our Christmas photos when I have time but access to the internet is limited for me this week so bare with me.

Since we are traveling to Louisiana we went ahead and had our Christmas with Cain on Tuesday night. We figured if we had Christmas early he could play with his new toys on Wednesday and we wouldn’t have to pack them in the car for our ride to Louisiana. We already know our car is going to be packed to capacity on the ride home after Cain gets Christmas presents from the grandparents.
I don’t know if Cain knew what to think of all his presents. At first he just looked around at them and finally tore the wrapping paper just a little. Hopefully it was just a warm up and he will go crazy Christmas morning.
This year we just bought Cain a few toys. Nothing too much but a few things he could enjoy.
Brad had two boxes that were supposed to be surprise presents that he bought just for Cain. One of the presents was for Cain but he surprised me and the other present was from him and Cain to me.
He surprised me with earrings from Tiffany & Co.
I have to tell you the story behind the earrings. They are SO SPECIAL to me. Something I never shared on my blog is that Brad gave me a necklace right before I had Cain. This is a picture of the necklace he gave me.
When he gave it to me he told me he wanted me to have something really special. When he saw this necklace he knew it was it. As you can see the necklace is heart shaped but doesn’t make a complete heart. He told me it symbolized Cain’s heart because it’s not a complete or full heart but it is perfect to us! You can imagine how much I cried when he gave me the necklace. For Christmas he gave me the earrings that matched the necklace. Now you can see why they are both so special to me. (By the way…he’s probably going to kill me for telling everyone about this! )
We had so much fun opening Christmas presents with Cain and watching him play with his new toys. I can’t wait to do it all over again with him on Christmas morning. What a great Christmas this will be for us.
Oh…one last thing…I wanted to show you a picture of Cain’s Christmas tree. Since I put his Christmas tree in the corner of his room where I store all his toys I ended up using his toys to decorate the tree. I think it turned out really cute.

He has also become a pro at eating his Puffs. And he loves them!
By the way....the highchair Cain is sitting in was my highchair. My mom and dad brought it to us when they came up for Thanksgiving. I love that he is able to use it. I want to paint or stain it but I haven't decided what color or how to do that. Maybe it can be my project after New Year's. Cain is still a little too small for the highchair so we put his Bumbo seat in it and that seems to work perfect for now.
Cain tries so hard to crawl but just isn't up on his hands and knees yet. He has really started to belly crawl lately though. He is so determined and we are so proud of him.
Here is a video of our little Rocky Balboa in action.

I'm hoping to post videos this week of him waving, clapping, and belly crawling. I'm so excited about all of his new tricks and can't wait to show them to you!!

The appointment started out with an Echo. I was curious how well Cain would do laying still during the Echo now that he is on the move all the time. He surprised me and did very well. He was a little wiggly at first but I was able to distract him with toys. He finally layed very still (pretty impressive for a 10 month old) and the Echo tech was able to get great pictures for the Dr.
Hanging out during his Echo
Clapping when the Echo being finished. When I say "Yay!" Cain will clap. I think I had said.."Yay! The Echo is finished" and he clapped. Pretty funny guy.
"Okay...I'm all finished...help me up Daddy"
After the Echo Cain had his vitals taken. His blood pressures on all extremities looked great. His sats were 88 which is great. He is now 27 inches long and weighed 19lbs 7 ounces today.
Being distracted by bubbles while having his BP taken
And trucks to distract him.
Daddy and Cain playing while waiting to see the cardiologist
After the Echo and vitals were done, we met with Cain's cardiologist. The great news is that everything looked good!! The only concern the cardiologist had was that Cain's left pulmonary artery is still a little small/narrow. This will be something that will more than likely have to be addressed during Cain's next surgery or after that surgery. The cardiologist also said that it would probably be something that would require widening over time as Cain grows.
Speaking of next surgery, we learned today that Cain's next surgery (if everything stays the same) could take place around the time Cain is 2 years old to 2 1/2 years of age. So possibly spring/summer of 2011. We also learned that Cain would have a fenestration (hole) put in during Cain's Fontan surgery. This is a normal occurrence during the Fontan surgery but the not so good news is that it will require another heart cath approximately 6 months to a year after the Fontan surgery to close the fenestration (hole).
Many people have asked me..."So, after Cain's next surgery...is that it? Will that be his last surgery?" I wish that I could answer "yes" to this question but this will be a question I will never be able to answer. We can only hope and pray that the Fontan will be the last major open heart surgery he will need but after our meeting with the cardiologist today I think I have learned that Cain will more than likely have a few heart cath's in his future.
Overall, the appointment went really well and we were pleased with the good report!! I could tell I had been getting nervous about this appointment. I had been very anxious during the last week and I know this appointment was the reason why. I know Cain looks great on the outside but it's always SO GREAT to know that he looks GREAT on the inside too! Hopefully we will have the same great report again in 6 months.

This was Cain's first time to meet Santa and he did great! I was so proud of him. He didn't even cry. He mostly just stared at Santa with a very serious, inquisitive stare. After all, he's never seen a big white beard like that!
The youth group from Friendship Community Church volunteered their time and also brought us food for the party. Thank you all SO much!
