Breaking News!

This just in......Cain rolled from his back to his stomach for the very first time tonight. I can not explain how excited we were. I think Cain was pretty excited too!! (or maybe Cain was just excited due to all the jumping up and down and screaming his parents were doing) The fact that it has taken Cain a little longer to hit some of these milestones has really taught me to appreciate them when they first happen. I am one excited Mommy tonight. And I think Daddy is pretty excited too!!

9 Months

My little miracle turned 9 months old today. It is crazy to think I was pregnant for 9 months and now he is 9 months old. I have to say…both the pregnancy and the past 9 months flew by way too fast.

What is Cain doing at 9 months?

-As you can tell by Cain's picture he is constantly being funny. I could not get him to sit still and smile. He is now constantly moving around, kicking his feet, waving his hands and just having a good time.
-At Cain’s last weight check he weighed 18lbs 15oz.
-Cain can now sit independently for very long periods of time and rarely falls over anymore. He enjoys sitting and playing with his toys on the floor and doesn’t mind playing by himself while I get things done around the house.
-He is still drinking approximately 24oz. of formula each day.
-He has still been only eating mostly Stage 1 baby foods (1 fruit & 1 vegetable each day) but this month I plan to start feeding him mostly Stage 2 baby foods and will probably start feeding him food 3 times a day rather than just 2 times a day.
-He’s still a toothless monster. I keep telling him if he would get some teeth I would think about letting him try some real food.
-Cain still has a therapist come to our house almost every week. We continue to work very hard on his motor skills. Right now we are working the most on Cain being able to pull himself up into a sitting position. We do little baby sit ups with him each day to help strengthen is stomach muscles. He can now pull himself up into a sitting position by holding on to one of our fingers and we only help him a little.
-We found out the other day that if we put him on his knees he can stay in a tall kneeling position. See...

-Cain is really starting to copy things we do and noises we make.
-Cain isn’t clapping on his own yet but just the other day he started opening his hands when I clapped them together. He was always keeping his hands in fists when I clapped them together. (I know this may not seem like a big deal to some people but after all Cain’s been through every little new motor skill is very exciting to me.)
-Cain is constantly laughing, smiling, and making new sounds. He is always making us laugh and has brought so much joy to our lives!!!

A Grand Weekend with Cain's Grandmother

Brad's mom was in town over the weekend. I know she was SO happy to finally get her hands on Cain. The last two times she was here was when he was born and for his last surgery. Both of her visits were during very stressful times so I know this trip was GREAT for her.

We had a very relaxing weekend of spending time with her at our house and watching lots of football. It was a great football weekend for us considering both LSU & the Saints won their games. We still can't believe that the Saints are undefeated this season. What a great year for Cain to become a Saints fan!

Since we couldn't watch the Saints game at home we found a restaurant that was playing the game. I couldn't believe how great Cain was. He was so patient with us considering we were at the restaurant several hours watching the game. He never even cried. Just ate, slept and played. Oh...and cheered a little!

Cain taking a lunch break during the Saints game.

Happy that the Saints are winning. This is his new smile. Every time he smiles now he opens his mouth as wide as it will go. It cracks me up every time he does it.

I tried very hard to get a family photo but as you can see in the next two pictures my boys just weren't cooperating.

"Seriously mom...another picture?"

"Fine but I'm not too happy about this"

We had a great weekend and I think Cain really enjoyed having his MeMaw in town spoiling him.

Saying "good-bye" at the airport.

Trip to Huntsville

Recently Brad had a dinner meeting for work in Huntsville. My cousin Michael and his wife Storey live in Huntsville so Cain and I decided to tag along with Brad and visit my cousin while Brad was at his dinner. Cain slept on the ride down to Huntsville and slept all the way home. He doesn't seem to mind traveling at all. I'm sure that is going to change as he gets older.

Michael & Storey cooked dinner for me and we enjoyed visiting with them. I'm so happy they only live two hours from us. If only we could see each other more often!

Cain laughing at Michael & Storey's dog.

Thanks for having us over. We can't wait to see you again in a few weeks!!

H1N1 Vaccine & Synagis shots

What a relief!...Cain was able to receive his H1N1 vaccine yesterday. His pediatrician received 10 doses of the vaccine for his most at risk babies. Cain was considered to be part of this group so the nurse called us yesterday to see if I could bring Cain in for his first dose of the vaccine. I believe he will need to go back in a month for the second dose of the vaccine. The Dr. also recommended that Brad and I get the H1N1 vaccine as well to help protect Cain.

And since it's RSV season, Cain had to restart his Synagis shots. 'RSV' stands for Respiratory Syncytial Virus which is a very common virus that infects half of all children during their first year of life and, by age five, all children will have been infected at least once. Most infections are mild but RSV can cause severe illnesses in infants who were born prematurely or who have lung problems. RSV season runs from October through April so I will be taking Cain to his pediatricians office each month for these shots.

I am so thankful that our insurance pays a huge majority of the Synagis shots. These shots are ridiculously expense costing typically over $1000 a shot. Thank goodness for insurance!

First Little Cold

When Cain woke up this morning he was sneezing nonstop and it was like someone had turned on a faucet in his nose. I felt so sorry for the little guy. We have been so lucky that he hasn't been sick until now but since this was his first cold I was a little bit nervous. I decided I would rather be safe than sorry so I called his pediatrician to let them know what was going on. They thought it was best if I went ahead and brought him in this afternoon so the doctor could take a look at him. Of course, Cain ended up taking a very long morning nap and woke up in a great mood and the sneezing and runny nose seemed to have stopped. (Thank goodness!) I think I would have cancelled the appointment but he woke up when the office was closed for lunch and his appointment was at 12:50 so I decided to just keep the appointment rather than canceling at the last minute.

We didn't get to see Cain's regular pediatrician because he was out of town but the Dr. we saw was very sweet. She told me that even though he seemed to be feeling better she was glad I brought him in so they could listen to his chest and make sure everything sounded okay and that he wasn't congested. She said that he seemed to have a little cold that would just have to run its course and I should watch to make sure he doesn't start running any fever. His nose was a little runny later this evening and he was still sneezing a bit but for the most part he seems to be feeling just fine. Hopefully it will turn out to be nothing. We take so many precautions to keep him away from germs. I would just hate to see him with a bad cold.

Before they weighed him today they asked me if he could sit up on his own. It was so exciting to tell the nurse that he could! And I thought it was pretty adorable to see him sitting on the scale for the first time. He weighed a whopping 18lbs. 15oz. today. My baby is getting so big.

Gentry's Farm Pumpkin Patch

Fall weather has finally arrived, the leaves have started to turn, and the sky's were blue today. I would say it was a perfect Sunday. What made the day really great was our trip to Gentry's Farm Pumpkin Patch. I am so excited to start traditions with Cain and I hope we will continue to visit this Pumpkin Patch for years to come.

Cain had his little feet wrapped around the bottom of the tractor hoping to not fall off.
Daddy showing Cain the goats.
And showing him the ducks.
And showing him the Rooster. He's such a good daddy!!

He's not very tall yet.

We went to the pumpkin patch with our friends Allison, Benson, and their little girl Liza.
Liza playing with some of the fun toys. All the kids at the pumpkin patch seemed to be having so much fun. There was so much for them to do.

Awe!! Liza loves her "baby Cain".

Taking a picture break in the corn maize.

"Mom...did you really have to use the stroller to carry your pumpkin?"

Allison had a friend that was at this same pumpkin patch today and her friend saw Nicole Kidman, Keith Urban, their daughter Sunday Rose and Dierks Bentley at Gentry's Farm. I'm sad we didn't see them too. That would have been a lot of fun. Oh well, maybe we will run into them next year.

Sip and See Party

My mom had a party at her house while we were in Louisiana so friends and family could meet Cain. It meant so much to me to be able to introduce Cain to the people who have prayed so hard for him during this past year. I think it meant a lot to each of them too.

Mom had hearts put on the little cakes which I thought was really sweet.
Cain dressed and ready to meet people.
Well, we thought he was ready. He decided he needed a quick nap instead. He ended up falling asleep right before the party started so we let him take a quick 30 minute nap and then woke him up to meet everyone.

Me with my cousin Katelyn. She had been so ready to meet Cain!!
My best friend Kristi and her daughter Holli

Cain decided he needed his bottle since we wouldn't give him any punch and petit fours.

A whole bunch of cousins. Me, Cori, my mom, Cori's mom Mrs. Charlotte and our other cousin Anita Kay

Speaking of Anita Kay...she made Cain this ADORABLE hat for winter. She seriously made the whole thing by hand. I love it and thought it was so cute on him. I already bought him a brown fleece coat a few weeks ago at a consignment sale that I think will go perfect with this hat.

Holli & Summer talking with Cain. While they were sitting here Holli asked Cain.."do you love me with all of your heart?" I thought it was so sweet. Then she proceeded to say.."tell me you love me!" Not realizing he couldn't talk. Just precious.
Holli & Summer just met for the first time at my moms house and they seemed to love playing together. They are both beautiful little girls.
Rocking my cousin Jennifer's little girl Ella. I was SO EXCITED to finally meet Ella.
Ella with her Uncle Freddie (my dad)

The Grandmothers rocking their sweet babies as they slept.
Me & my Granddad

Cain, Granddad, and my cousin Lee

More family!! Uncle Joe, Aunt Janice (one of my dad's sisters), Aunt Karen, Katelyn, Lee, and my Uncle Mike (my dad's brother)

Brad's mom was able to come in town too! That was very exciting. She was SO ready to see Cain again.

I think Cain really enjoyed his party and meeting everyone.

I later realized that I didn't get pictures of everyone who stopped by the house. I wish I had of thought to get pictures of Cain with everyone. Thank you all so much for coming by to meet him. I enjoyed visiting with everyone and can't wait to bring Cain home again (hopefully sooner than later).
