Surgery Day Updates

11:22 p.m. - I feel Cain is having a very good evening considering all that he has been through. He has now had 2 blood transfusions and his O2 levels are staying in the 80's. Thank goodness. I have to say that it was pretty scary earlier this afternoon. When we first saw Cain after his surgery his O2 levels were in the 60's and his cerebral oxygen sats were running low. He still has a breathing tube in and they hope to be able to wean him off the tube and have it out by lunch time tomorrow. We can only have one person stay in the room with Cain here in PICCU so Brad has gone out to a family waiting area to rest. I will stay in Cain's room and try to get some rest with him. We can't thank you all enough for your love, prayers, and support. I look forward to reporting more progress tomorrow!

5:08 p.m.-We have been back with Cain since 3:15. Earlier this afternoon Cain was having brochospasms that were possibly due to inflammation in his lungs. This was causing his O2 levels to decline. They have given Cain breathing treatments, steriods, and he is now receiving a blood transfusion. So far this seems to be improving his O2 sat's.

2:28 p.m.-We are still waiting to see Cain. We keep checking to see if he is ready. Brad just walked back in our waiting area and said he was told he should be ready in 20 minutes. I'm SO ready to see my baby!!!!

12:10 p.m. - Spoke with Dr. Bichell. Surgery went great. The placement of the SVC went well and they were also able to widen the left pulmonary artery as planned (without having to use synthetic materials). There was minimal swelling, so they were able to close the chest wound. He will still have chest drainage tubes, pacer wires, pic line (IV), central line IV, etc. He is in the process of being relocated to the PICCU for recovery and it will be a couple of hours before we will get to see him, but the news thus far has been good.

10:45 a.m.-On bypass and Dr. Bichell is working on the repair

9:35 a.m.-Incision has been made surgery starting now

9:15 a.m.-Got lines in will start incision and call once incision is complete

8:45 a.m. -Received phone call stating they were still working on prepping Cain for surgery.

7:45 a.m.-Cain was taken back to the operating room

6:45 a.m.-Cain was called back to holding

6:30 a.m.-Arrived for check-in

Glad everything has went well so far...praying for a quick recovery for Cain. He was the exact same age as our daughter, Maddie was when she had her Glenn back in July and she did just fine. He's much bigger too! Wow, what a cute little chunk- way to go Cain!
Love,
Katie & Maddie (HRHS)

I'm happy to wake up this morning to the good news that Cain is doing well. Hoping he comes off the vent quickly and without setback. Hope you and Brad got some rest- although I highly doubt it. Thanks for the updates!
