Pre-Op Day

Cain is all tucked in and ready for his big day tomorrow. It shouldn't be hard for him to rest well tonight. He had a very busy day today. The day started off early with the rest of his pre-op work. Weight check, sat check, BP, urinalysis, blood work, etc. I think I mentioned in an earlier post that Brad hoped Cain would weigh 15lbs by his 2nd surgery. Well today Cain weighed 15lbs. 3 oz. Good job Cain!!

Cain patiently waiting to have his blood drawn.

We also had a chance to sit down and talk with Cain's surgeon. This conversation was much easier than our previous talks with him. We've already been through so much and learned so much. There really wasn't anything new to discuss. Of course, he had to go over the dreaded consent forms and have us sign those. If you've ever had to sign one for your child then you know exactly why I call them the "dreaded forms".

Cain was asked to be part of a research study. The purpose of the study is to find out if heart disease and its treatments affect how babies develop and to learn better ways to treat babies who are born with heart problems.

Cain will be involved in two study visits and today was his first visit. During the visit he had to wear an EEG cap for 15 minutes while they monitored his brain response to sounds. I figured he was going to throw a huge fit because of the cap. As you can see from the pictures...he was a patient participant.

"Dad...are you seriously just going to sit there and watch as they put this silly cap on my head?"

"Seriously this necessary?"

"I still look cute even with this silly cap on my head"

After our pre-op appointment we came back to the house and were greeted by many visitors who traveled in to be with us tomorrow. We thank all of you for being here with us. We couldn't do this without all of your support.

Aunt Jeanette & Aunt Janice with Cain

Ha! Everyone loving on Cain. And yes...we basically made everyone scrub up like they were about to go in to perform a surgery.

MeMe, Cain's "other MeMe" Ms. Betty, and my Granddad

Cain and his "Aunt Kristi" very best friend.

Cain worn out from his big day.

I have received so many encouraging messages today and I thank you all so much! We should receive periodic calls from the surgical team as we are waiting in the wait room. I hope to update the blog throughout the day. Thank you all for your continued prayers!!

Catherine, Brad & Cain - Know that we are thinking about you all and praying for a great outcome. The pictures of Cain in the "cap" are precious. He will love you so much for those in the coming years! HA!
Vicki and I dropped by at lunch yesterday, hopeing that we would catch you home. Poor Sadie was outside and wanted some attention. She is SO SWEET! Your house is precious and YOUR YARD! You will have to tell me what you've done to make the grass so amazing! I have NEVER seen such a beautiful yard! And LOVE the creek behind the house. What a great place to live.
