Cain is 4 months old! Can you believe it? I can't! We are so excited he made it to 4 months before having his next heart surgery! There were many days we were worried it would be earlier.
What is Cain doing at 4 months?
-Takes 4-6 ounces of breast milk every 3 hours. We are no longer having to add formula to the breast milk for extra caloric intake.
-Still going to bed at 8pm every night.
-Still waking up at least once every night to feed. Usually around 2:30 a.m.
-Usually wakes up at 6:00 a.m. but will go back to sleep for another hour or two every morning.
-Starting to laugh at us
-Likes to suck on his hands and fingers (I'm wondering if teeth will start coming in soon)
-Getting better at holding his head up when on his stomach
-Turns his head toward loud sounds
-Likes to hold on to his pacifier and take it out of his mouth

We took advantage of having babysitters in town and got a lot done around the house. We spent Saturday afternoon working in the yard. Mom and Cain sat in the hammock and supervised while I planted flowers and Brad and Dad cleaned our gutters. It was so nice to be able to get all of this done.
The boys hard at work
Mom, Cain, and Sadie supervising
While we were out Saturday buying flowers and mulch...we also made a stop by Toys R Us and bought Cain a fun Jumparoo! He doesn't look thrilled in this picture but he seemed to have fun bouncing around.
Sunday afternoon we left Cain home with my parents and went to watch a movie. I think my mom may have been exhausted after watching Cain all weekend. I'm sure she'd do it again in a heartbeat though!

Even though this appointment was the same as all of Cain's previous appointments, I left this appointment very sad. Much of the discussions during Cain's appointment were regarding his upcoming surgery. I can't believe it's already time for his next surgery. Lately, I have had to keep myself very busy. Otherwise, I don't think I could "hold myself together". I am constantly thinking of his surgery...day and night.
Today I spent the entire morning talking with blood banks and BCBS regarding Direct Donor Blood Donations for Cain. I now know much more about blood donations than I ever thought I would. We have all the donors we need and we couldn't be more grateful to each of you for doing this for Cain.
I plan to post a blog very soon to describe exactly what will take place during Cain's surgery. I know many of you want to know.
"Not another EKG mom! Why do I have to have so many of these?"
I love this little guy SO much!

Cain looks like he is eating a chip with his Daddy. Don't worry he's not...he's just trying to chew on his fingers.
"Hey....going to the park is pretty relaxing."
"Hey Daddy! It makes me really happy to see you during the day. This is fun!"

Yep that's right...it says "I'll get up with Cain during the night all weekend". WOW! What a great present for a new mom! I haven't slept two full nights in over 3 months. Well, I guess I should rephrase that...I hadn't slept two full nights in over 3 months until this weekend. It was heavenly!
But wouldn't you know, Cain decided he would sleep through the night Saturday night. We put him in his crib at 8pm and he didn't wake up until 5:45a.m. This is the longest he has ever slept. And instead of Brad having to go feed him...Brad just put his pacifier in his mouth and Cain went right back to sleep and slept until 8a.m.
Cain sleeping peacefully! Why doesn't he sleep this long during the night when I'm getting up to take care of him?
I was hoping this was the start of Cain sleeping through the night but of course he woke up last night around 2:30 wanting a bottle and again at 6a.m.
But back to my Mother's Day weekend...when I woke up Saturday morning I had a card on my night stand from Sadie and then on Sunday morning I woke up to a card from Cain. How fun!! Cain's card also included this present for me...
A gift certificate for a steam shower, facial, & a one hour massage!!!!
Again, what a GREAT present for a new mom! I told Brad that he was already teaching Cain how to be a wonderful husband one day. Isn't that what we are supposed to do...lead by example?
Sunday afternoon we decided we were ready to get out of the house as a family. Since we really can't go anywhere with Cain where he may be exposed to germs we decided to take him on a walk. We went to a park near our house and enjoyed the pretty day. I think Brad and I enjoyed the walk more than Cain considering he slept most of the walk.
Our attempt at taking a family photo. What a horrible attempt it was!
You over there Mommy?
I decided I would try carrying Cain. I guess he was pretty comfy because he fell asleep right away.
Having a relaxing Sunday walk!
That little guy can be pretty heavy to carry up all those stairs. I need to come walk in this park more often with Cain.
Perfect Mother's Day!
Cain finally decided to wake up and enjoy some of our walk. And yes...those are scratches on his little head. I guess his mommy needs to clip his nails again.
This will be a Mother's Day I will never forget. I am so thankful for Brad and for Cain and to have been given the opportunity to be a Mommy!

He weighed 13lbs 12oz. Since he has continued to have good weight gain, Dr. Liske decided we could lower his caloric intake from 30 calories per ounce to 24 calories per ounce.

Cain having his blood pressure checked.
Having fun kicking his feet on the exam paper as he waits to see Dr. Liske
Cain's cardiologist listening to his shunt.
Brad tries to go to as many appointments as possible with us but can't always do so because of work. Thankfully, he was able to come to this appointment with us. I'm happy he did because while we were waiting on Dr. Liske to come in to the room we believe we heard Cain laugh for the first time. It was the cutest sound I've ever heard. I tried to get him to do it again so I could video tape it but of course he wouldn't do it.
