4 months

Cain is 4 months old! Can you believe it? I can't! We are so excited he made it to 4 months before having his next heart surgery! There were many days we were worried it would be earlier.

What is Cain doing at 4 months?
-Takes 4-6 ounces of breast milk every 3 hours. We are no longer having to add formula to the breast milk for extra caloric intake.
-Still going to bed at 8pm every night.
-Still waking up at least once every night to feed. Usually around 2:30 a.m.
-Usually wakes up at 6:00 a.m. but will go back to sleep for another hour or two every morning.
-Starting to laugh at us
-Likes to suck on his hands and fingers (I'm wondering if teeth will start coming in soon)
-Getting better at holding his head up when on his stomach
-Turns his head toward loud sounds
-Likes to hold on to his pacifier and take it out of his mouth

Cain's First Memorial Day

I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend. Our weekend turned out to be nice and relaxing. At the last minute my parents decided to come visit us. I guess I should probably say they came to visit Cain! It's funny how often they come to see us now that Cain is here. I love it though! They were supposed to get here Friday night but after getting stuck in Atlanta overnight they didn't get here until Saturday morning. I doubt they will be flying through Atlanta in the future if it can be avoided.

We took advantage of having babysitters in town and got a lot done around the house. We spent Saturday afternoon working in the yard. Mom and Cain sat in the hammock and supervised while I planted flowers and Brad and Dad cleaned our gutters. It was so nice to be able to get all of this done.

While we were out Saturday buying flowers and mulch...we also made a stop by Toys R Us and bought Cain a fun Jumparoo! He doesn't look thrilled in this picture but he seemed to have fun bouncing around.

Sunday afternoon we left Cain home with my parents and went to watch a movie. I think my mom may have been exhausted after watching Cain all weekend. I'm sure she'd do it again in a heartbeat though!

Cain with MiMi & Pop-Pa before heading to the airport

"Hey mom....what are you doing back here with me? You are usually not in the backseat."

Pop-Pa telling Cain "See ya later"

After we dropped my parents off at the airport we came home for Cain's first Memorial Day Cookout.

While we were buying Cain his jumparoo...we also bought him his very 1st baby pool. Look at that big belly and those chubby cheeks.
Ha! Ha! So maybe the baby pool wasn't big enough for a family photo!
Sadie decided she needed to join in the Memorial Day festivities and decided to take a dip in the creek.
And this last picture sums up our Memorial Day weekend!!

Weekly Cardiology Check-up

Every Friday Cain has a follow-up appointment with his cardiologist. This appointment was no different than any other. Cain weighed 14lbs 9 ounces and was 24 1/4 inches long. Brad has been saying all along that he hoped Cain would be 15lbs by the time of his 2nd surgery and it looks like this will happen.

Even though this appointment was the same as all of Cain's previous appointments, I left this appointment very sad. Much of the discussions during Cain's appointment were regarding his upcoming surgery. I can't believe it's already time for his next surgery. Lately, I have had to keep myself very busy. Otherwise, I don't think I could "hold myself together". I am constantly thinking of his and night.

Today I spent the entire morning talking with blood banks and BCBS regarding Direct Donor Blood Donations for Cain. I now know much more about blood donations than I ever thought I would. We have all the donors we need and we couldn't be more grateful to each of you for doing this for Cain.

I plan to post a blog very soon to describe exactly what will take place during Cain's surgery. I know many of you want to know.

"Not another EKG mom! Why do I have to have so many of these?"

I love this little guy SO much!

Picnic Lunch

The weather in Nashville has been PERFECT this week! Blue skies with no clouds in sight. I live for this kind of weather. I decided the only thing that could make the perfect weather more enjoyable would be to enjoy it with Brad. Brad happened to be working across the street from a park so I decided to pack a picnic lunch and take Cain to see his Daddy.

Cain looks like he is eating a chip with his Daddy. Don't worry he's not...he's just trying to chew on his fingers.

"Hey....going to the park is pretty relaxing."

"Hey Daddy! It makes me really happy to see you during the day. This is fun!"
"Mom...I see you all the time. You're not as fun."

Hanging in the Hammock

My favorite thing to do right now is watch Cain and Brad enjoying their time together. There is no better sight! I love watching Brad smile at Cain and Cain smile back. Sunday afternoon they spent time hanging out in our new hammock together and I was able to sneak in some pictures.

Brad didn't know I was taking the first 3 pictures. I was able to catch them in action!

Happy Mother's Day

I hope everyone had a great Mother’s Day. I not only had a great 1st Mother’s Day…I had a great weekend. My Mother’s Day started Friday evening when Brad gave me a card. In the card he wrote the following…

Yep that's says "I'll get up with Cain during the night all weekend". WOW! What a great present for a new mom! I haven't slept two full nights in over 3 months. Well, I guess I should rephrase that...I hadn't slept two full nights in over 3 months until this weekend. It was heavenly!

But wouldn't you know, Cain decided he would sleep through the night Saturday night. We put him in his crib at 8pm and he didn't wake up until 5:45a.m. This is the longest he has ever slept. And instead of Brad having to go feed him...Brad just put his pacifier in his mouth and Cain went right back to sleep and slept until 8a.m.

Cain sleeping peacefully! Why doesn't he sleep this long during the night when I'm getting up to take care of him?

I was hoping this was the start of Cain sleeping through the night but of course he woke up last night around 2:30 wanting a bottle and again at 6a.m.

But back to my Mother's Day weekend...when I woke up Saturday morning I had a card on my night stand from Sadie and then on Sunday morning I woke up to a card from Cain. How fun!! Cain's card also included this present for me...

A gift certificate for a steam shower, facial, & a one hour massage!!!!

Again, what a GREAT present for a new mom! I told Brad that he was already teaching Cain how to be a wonderful husband one day. Isn't that what we are supposed to do...lead by example?

Sunday afternoon we decided we were ready to get out of the house as a family. Since we really can't go anywhere with Cain where he may be exposed to germs we decided to take him on a walk. We went to a park near our house and enjoyed the pretty day. I think Brad and I enjoyed the walk more than Cain considering he slept most of the walk.

Our attempt at taking a family photo. What a horrible attempt it was!

You over there Mommy?

I decided I would try carrying Cain. I guess he was pretty comfy because he fell asleep right away.

Having a relaxing Sunday walk!

That little guy can be pretty heavy to carry up all those stairs. I need to come walk in this park more often with Cain.

Perfect Mother's Day!

Cain finally decided to wake up and enjoy some of our walk. And yes...those are scratches on his little head. I guess his mommy needs to clip his nails again.

This will be a Mother's Day I will never forget. I am so thankful for Brad and for Cain and to have been given the opportunity to be a Mommy!

Just Another Friday Appointment

Thankfully, we had another good weekly cardiology appointment. Basically, these weekly appointments consist of Cain's oxygen saturation's and his BP being checked. At the appointment they also weigh him and listen to his chest. Some weeks he has to have an EKG but he didn't have one at this appointment.

He weighed 13lbs 12oz. Since he has continued to have good weight gain, Dr. Liske decided we could lower his caloric intake from 30 calories per ounce to 24 calories per ounce.

Daddy's Little Helper

Cain isn't big enough to help his Daddy mow the yard but he sure enjoyed watching him work. We sat outside yesterday evening and watched Brad go back and forth on the lawn mower. It was so cute to watch Cain's little head and eyes follow his Daddy.
Daddy am I going to get to ride on this with you when I'm bigger?

Weekly Cardiology Appointment

I always enjoy when I can report that we had a good Dr's appointment! Lately, the appointments have been uneventful which is GREAT!! Cain is continuing to grow (as I'm sure you can tell by the pictures) and weighed 13lbs 8oz. He is also now 23 1/2" long.

Having fun kicking his feet on the exam paper as he waits to see Dr. Liske

Brad tries to go to as many appointments as possible with us but can't always do so because of work. Thankfully, he was able to come to this appointment with us. I'm happy he did because while we were waiting on Dr. Liske to come in to the room we believe we heard Cain laugh for the first time. It was the cutest sound I've ever heard. I tried to get him to do it again so I could video tape it but of course he wouldn't do it.
